Google is providing advertisers with a more convenient way to reveal whether political advertisements contain content generated by artificial intelligence.
According to a report by Search Engine Land, Google stated that whenever advertisers mark election advertisements as containing "synthetic or digitally modified content," the system will automatically generate disclosure information. Last year, Google required political advertisers to include their own "clearly visible" disclosure information in advertisements containing AI content.
However, Google is now simplifying this process. As long as advertisers check the "modified or synthetic content" checkbox in their ad campaign settings, the system will automatically include disclosure information in the advertisement. This disclosure information will appear in mobile device news feeds, YouTube Shorts, and in-stream ads displayed on mobile phones, computers, TVs, and the web.
For all other ad formats, advertisers must include their own disclosure information. With the U.S. presidential election just months away, the use of AI in political advertisements has raised concerns.
This May, the Senate Rules Committee advanced a bill requiring political advertisers to disclose AI-generated content, and the Federal Communications Commission proposed implementing a similar policy.
Key Points:
- Google is streamlining the process for advertisers to disclose whether political advertisements contain AI-generated content.
- After advertisers check the "modified or synthetic content" checkbox, Google will automatically generate disclosure information.
- Disclosure information will be displayed in mobile device news feeds, YouTube Shorts, and streaming ads, while other ad formats require advertisers to provide their own disclosure information.
