YouTube Music is back with a big announcement! Recently, they revealed they are testing two new features: one is an AI-generated conversational radio feature, and the other is a Shazam-like song identification tool. These two new features will undoubtedly make music discovery smarter and more personalized.

AI Conversational Radio: Discover Music Through Chat

The AI conversational radio feature of YouTube Music is currently being tested with some Premium users in the United States. Users can create a customized radio station by describing the music style or type they want to listen to. For example, you might say "Something with catchy pop hooks" or "Inspiring pop anthems".

The launch of this experimental feature is not surprising, as just last week, 9to5Google reported that YouTube Music began testing this feature.

This new feature of YouTube Music is somewhat similar to the AI playlist generation tools currently being tested by Spotify, Amazon Music, and Deezer. All four music streaming services are introducing a way for users to generate personalized listening experiences by inputting text prompts.

Users with this new feature will start to see a new card in the main Feed of the app titled "Request music in any way you like." Once you click on this card, the app will open a conversational interface where you can enter custom prompts or choose a suggested prompt.

Although this feature is currently only open to some users, YouTube says it will be expanded to more users in the future.

Sing to Find a Song: Use Sound to Search for Music

As for the other new song identification feature, YouTube Music users can now search for songs in the app's song catalog through sound. Now, when you click "Search" in the app, you will see a waveform icon that prompts you to find a song's name by singing, humming, or playing a part of a song.

While Shazam is undoubtedly the most famous song identification tool, YouTube Music's new feature goes beyond Shazam because it allows you to find a song's name by humming or singing, while Shazam only works when an actual song is playing.

The song detection tool of YouTube Music was first opened to some Android YouTube Music users earlier this year and is now officially released to all iOS and Android users.

These two new features of YouTube Music not only improve the user experience but also demonstrate the potential applications of AI technology in the music field. We have reason to believe that with the continuous advancement of technology, the future of music discovery will become even smarter and more personalized. Let's wait and see how YouTube Music will continue to lead the innovation trend of music streaming services.
