In the realm of contemporary music creation, the application of AI technology is garnering increasing attention. However, the complexities of copyright issues and fair compensation for artists pose significant challenges for many startups in this field. Yet, Indian startup Beatoven.ai appears to have found a morally and responsibly sound approach to address these challenges.

Mansoor Rahimat Khan, the co-founder and CEO of Beatoven.ai, is a professional sitar player hailing from a family with a seven-generation musical heritage. During his studies at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, he developed a keen interest in music technology. He expressed his desire to combine his passion for music with technology, despite the limited opportunities in India.

Established in 2021, Beatoven.ai quickly caught the attention of investors, securing $1.3 million in a pre-Series A round, bringing the total funding to $2.42 million. Khan and his partner Siddharth Bhardwaj identified that independent game developers, agencies, and production companies had the greatest demand for track generation. Their goal is to provide users with a simple interface to generate tracks by selecting music genre, mood, and duration.

Initially facing difficulties in data collection, Khan and his team successfully accumulated over 100,000 proprietary data samples by establishing partnerships with multiple artists. The introduction of the Diffusion model significantly enhanced the quality of music generation at Beatoven.ai. The company employs various models for different tasks, including using OpenAI's ChatGPT API and the CLAP model for video generation.

Additionally, Beatoven.ai recently launched a feature called "Augment," akin to a soundwave generation model, allowing users to create remixes based on existing music. Khan demonstrated how a simple sitar melody could be transformed into a hip-hop style remix, showcasing the flexibility of creation.

Currently, Beatoven.ai is testing a video-to-audio model where users can upload a video, and the model generates corresponding music based on the content. This feature offers users more creative possibilities.

Khan believes that companies like Spotify and YouTube should open their data and provide APIs to further advance the AI music industry.
