Recently, Meta announced the closure of its celebrity chatbot projects, which previously allowed users to engage in conversations with virtual avatars of celebrities. According to The Information, Meta heavily promoted these chatbots at last year's Connect conference, but now these virtual celebrities are no longer available.

Meta spokesperson Liz Sweeney stated: "You will no longer be able to interact with AI characters embodied by celebrities." This is clearly a strategic shift for the company, as Meta now focuses on AI Studio, a new tool that allows creators in the U.S. to produce their own chatbots. Sweeney further noted that Meta has gained valuable insights from the early celebrity chatbots, which will help them better connect and create in future AI products.

The initial celebrity chatbots included some popular figures, such as dance enthusiast Coco (Charli D'Amelio's avatar), motivational "Iron Man" Victor (Dwyane Wade's avatar), and detective duo Amber (Paris Hilton's avatar).

Although Meta had plans to introduce more chatbots like Bear Grylls, Chloe Kim, and Josh Richards, The Information pointed out that Meta did not achieve its goals. Additionally, Meta paid millions of dollars for some celebrity portraits, but these investments did not yield the expected results.

Despite the project's failure to meet Meta's expectations, the company remains hopeful about AI chatbots. Last year, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg repeatedly mentioned chatbots in an interview with The Verge's Alex Heath, highlighting the company's focus in this area.

Currently, Meta has integrated its Meta AI assistant into platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp, continuing to explore applications in AI.
