The researchers from the United Arab Emirates have developed two open-source large-scale language models, Jais and Jais Chat, utilizing Cerebras's dedicated AI chips. Jais, with 13 billion parameters, significantly outperforms existing open-source Arabic models in terms of test accuracy on Arabic tasks, and can even rival commercial English models like ChatGPT in certain writing tasks. The training of Jais was completed on Cerebras's wafer-scale chips without the use of GPUs, showcasing technological innovation. The open-source release of Jais is beneficial for advancing the development of Arabic natural language processing technology.
