Recently, Anthropic's AI application, Claude, has achieved a remarkable milestone: its mobile revenue has surpassed $1 million.
This achievement was accomplished in just 16 weeks, and according to data from app intelligence company Appfigures, U.S. users contributed nearly half of the revenue. Despite this, Claude still lags behind its main competitor, ChatGPT, in their ongoing competition. ChatGPT ranks first in overall downloads, while Claude ranks 26th in the iOS platform revenue rankings.
Claude's market performance was initially lukewarm, with only 157,000 global downloads in the first week of its launch. In contrast, ChatGPT attracted 480,000 downloads within five days of its launch on the iOS platform in the U.S. Claude's highest ranking was shortly after its launch, reaching 55th place on the U.S. free iPhone app chart.
Nevertheless, Claude was able to reach its first million in revenue faster than other AI application competitors. Although it lags far behind ChatGPT, which achieved this milestone in just three weeks, Claude leads Microsoft's Copilot and Perplexity, which took 19 weeks and 22 weeks respectively to reach the $1 million mark.
In terms of market distribution, Claude's downloads are primarily concentrated in the U.S., accounting for 32.5%. Following are India (9.6%), Japan (6.8%), the UK (5.1%), and Germany (3.2%). The downloads from these five countries together account for 57.2% of Claude's total downloads. In terms of revenue, Claude also performs exceptionally well in the U.S., with a revenue share of 48.4%. Closely behind are Japan (6.7%), Germany (4.3%), the UK (4.3%), and South Korea (2.8%), with the revenue from these five countries totaling 66.8%.
However, as a startup, Claude still faces significant burn rate pressure, especially in the mobile consumer market, where it may face more challenges in the future, particularly when Apple launches Apple Intelligence and Siri users can directly access ChatGPT through their iPhones.
