According to foreign media reports, in the latest episode of the Decoder program, GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke shared his insights on the company's future development, particularly concerning artificial intelligence and GitHub's independence under Microsoft.
GitHub, as the primary software management platform for global developers since its establishment in 2007, has always been the preferred destination for open-source code storage. Dohmke pointed out that GitHub is not only used by 90% of the Fortune 100 companies worldwide but has also integrated various new features such as issue tracking, automated workflows with GitHub Actions, and the ability to run development environments in the cloud through GitHub Codespaces.
He emphasized that GitHub aims to be the hub for developer tools rather than replace other software tools. He metaphorically described GitHub as a "big planet" in the "vast universe" of software development tools, co-building an open ecosystem with many partners.
Speaking about the impact of AI, Dohmke mentioned that GitHub Copilot is one of the company's biggest success stories, allowing developers to generate code using AI. He believes that this innovation not only drives individual creativity but also provides new ways for team collaboration. He stated that healthy competition in technology is beneficial, and no single company can monopolize the entire market.
Dohmke also addressed concerns about Microsoft potentially leveraging GitHub to promote its services, such as Azure or OpenAI. He is confident that GitHub, as an independent brand and platform, will continue to provide a safe and open environment for all developers.
