Nowadays, it's commonplace to see AI-generated fake content. However, a man was recently caught using AI technology to create and disseminate false information through video synthesis. This incident serves as a reminder for everyone to use AI tools cautiously to avoid undesirable consequences.

According to reports, in June, the Xiamen police received a tip-off that someone had posted a video on Jinri Toutiao, claiming that an elderly man in his 70s in a location in Guangdong was assaulted, leading to his grandson's suicide, and the assailant was sentenced. The video immediately garnered widespread attention upon its release.

However, after an investigation by the police, it was found to be entirely false. The owner of the account "Xiao Yi Views the World," identified as Ren (32 years old, from Hubei), was also arrested by the police on the evening of June 13.

Ren confessed that he could synthesize a video using AI technology in just a couple of minutes. He would first find eye-catching titles online, then use a writing app to automatically generate false content, create images based on the content, and finally compile them into a video to be posted on social platforms.

His objective was to attract traffic, increase his number of followers, and earn money based on the video's popularity. Currently, Ren is facing criminal charges for inciting disorder and has been subjected to criminal coercive measures by the Xiamen police.
