Amazon has announced the launch of Rufus, a shopping assistant powered by generative AI technology, in the UK. Rufus is now available for testing to a select group of users within the mobile application. This assistant is trained to answer questions regarding shopping needs, product details, and comparisons, and recommends items based on user requirements, aiding them in discovering products more conveniently.

The introduction of Rufus marks another innovation in Amazon's AI domain. Over the past 25 years, Amazon has actively utilized AI to enhance customer experiences, from personalized product recommendations and warehouse picking routes to Alexa's conversational capabilities. With the integration of generative AI, Amazon aims to revolutionize the shopping experience for users.

Rufus boasts robust functionalities; users can receive assistance through simple queries such as "What do I need to make a smoothie?" or "Should I choose hiking boots or running shoes?" Whether it's extensive product research or specific comparisons, Rufus makes the shopping journey easier for users.

Additionally, users can inquire about specific product details, such as "Is this tennis racket suitable for beginners?" or "Can this jacket be machine washed?" Rufus generates answers based on product information, customer reviews, and community Q&A.

For users looking to explore product categories, Rufus can provide guidance, such as "What types of headphones are there?" or "What types of coffee machines are available?" Rufus also helps users find products for specific occasions, like "I want to start indoor gardening, what do I need?" Rufus will suggest relevant product categories and questions to aid further exploration.

If users need assistance while viewing a specific product page, they can simply click the "What do customers say?" button to quickly see an overview of customer reviews. For the product being viewed, users can also ask Rufus questions for immediate answers.
