Recently, Stability AI has been working hard to find its commercial positioning, especially in the increasingly competitive text-to-image generation AI tool market. The company has now announced a deeper collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS), introducing three brand-new text-to-image generation models into Amazon's Bedrock service.

It's important to note that Amazon Bedrock is a fully managed service that offers high-performance foundational models (FMs) from leading companies such as Al21Labs, Anthropic, Cohere, Meta, MistralAl, StabilityAl, and A8Z00 through a unified API. It provides a wide range of functionalities, allowing developers to build AI applications while ensuring safety, privacy, and responsible AI practices.

Previously, Stability AI only provided its earlier SDXL model on Amazon Bedrock. This time, the company is introducing three more advanced new models: Stable Image Ultra, Stable Diffusion3Large, and Stable Image Core, catering to different developer needs.

  • Stable Image Ultra excels at generating high-resolution, detailed images, making it ideal for high-end marketing projects.

  • Stable Diffusion3Large focuses on quickly generating a large number of images, albeit with slightly lower quality, suitable for scenarios requiring rapid image production, such as game assets or product catalogs.

  •  Stable Image Core offers a more economical choice, though with less detail than the former two, it boasts fast generation speeds, suitable for general needs.

Comparison of Generation Effects:

Prompt:A dramatic studio headshot of a male subject with strong, directional lighting. Use a 100mm lens to capture a tight headshot with excellent background compression. Set the aperture to f/4 to keep the entire face in sharp focus while maintaining a pleasing depth of field. Use a shutter speed of 1/125s to sync with studio strobes and ensure proper exposure. Focus on the subject's eyes to draw the viewer into the portrait.

Among these new models, Stable Image Ultra is considered the flagship product, combining the powerful capabilities of SD3Large with advanced workflows, dedicated to providing the highest quality images. Scott Trowbridge, the Vice President of Commercial Development at Stability AI, stated that this model is particularly suitable for industries that require unparalleled visual effects, such as marketing, advertising, and architectural design.

Meanwhile, the Stable Image Core model is based on SDXL, aiming to provide a faster and more economical option. It's worth noting that Stability AI has not launched the Stable Diffusion3Medium model on Amazon Bedrock, but it supports self-hosting and API access.

Over the past year, Stability AI has been working hard to expand market channels. In December of last year, the company introduced a new membership model to create commercial revenue. At the same time, they also launched the Stable Assistant chatbot, through which users can access various models, with fees based on usage.

It's also worth mentioning that Stability AI has faced multiple operational challenges. The company's founder and CEO, Emad Mostaque, resigned in March, and it wasn't until June when the new CEO, Prem Akkaraju, took office that this transition period ended.

Although it is currently unclear how the costs of running these models on Amazon Bedrock compare to other methods, Stability AI has indicated that they are considering expanding the accessibility of their models through cloud service providers, system integrators, and other model service providers.
