Google's YouTube will roll out advanced generative AI tools to creators over the next few months, enabling them to generate video content using AI models Veo and Imagen3 through a feature called Dream Screen.

This new technology will simplify the content creation process for YouTube Shorts by providing users with high-quality AI-generated video backgrounds.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai stated on social media: "At YouTube, we want creators to express their creativity, build communities, and drive long-term business growth. The new tools have played a crucial role in the #MadeOnYouTube campaign: we will introduce Veo to Dream Screen to create high-quality custom backgrounds for Shorts, among other things."

Google Veo, a generative video model introduced at the 2024 Google I/O大会, can generate high-quality 1080p resolution videos over a minute long, accurately capturing the nuances of text prompts, including cinematic terms.

Through the "Dream Screen" feature, creators can initially generate images based on text prompts, with the system offering four different style options for users to choose from. After selection, the Veo model will generate a 6-second background video that perfectly matches the creator's concept. By 2025, this feature will be expanded to allow users to generate independent 6-second video clips.

This technology is based on Google's in-depth research in AI, including Transformer architecture and diffusion models, aiming to provide millions of YouTube creators with widely used tools. These AI-generated creations will be watermarked with SynthID, and YouTube will also label the content to indicate it is AI-generated.

YouTube is working to make generative AI technology more accessible globally, simplifying the content production process for millions of creators.

Meanwhile, OpenAI has not yet released its video generation model Sora. Hollywood actor Ashton Kutcher recently praised OpenAI's Sora, saying creators will be able to use it to make an entire film. "I have a beta version, and the results are quite impressive," he said. In a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, OpenAI's chief technology officer, Mira Murati, indicated that Sora might be made available to the public later this year.
