Since the launch of ChatGPT by OpenAI, backed by Microsoft in 2022, the use of AI technology has rapidly expanded, leading to concerns about misinformation, fake news, and copyright infringement.

The UN's advisory body was established last year, consisting of 39 experts. They mentioned in the report the need to establish a dedicated committee to provide impartial and reliable scientific knowledge about AI. The purpose of this committee is to address the information asymmetry between AI labs and the general public.

The report also calls for new global policy dialogues to enhance countries' capabilities in AI governance.

It is worth noting that only a few countries have enacted laws to regulate AI use. In contrast, the EU is at the forefront, having passed a comprehensive Artificial Intelligence Act. In the United States, policies rely more on voluntary compliance.

The UN's report also mentions that the development of AI technology is currently concentrated in the hands of a few multinational companies, which could lead to technology being imposed on people without their input. Therefore, the report recommends establishing a global AI fund to address gaps in capabilities and cooperation.

Additionally, the UN hopes to form a global AI data framework to ensure transparency and accountability in technology applications.

Lastly, the report proposes establishing a small AI office to support and coordinate the implementation of the above recommendations.

Key Points:

🌍 There is a need for enhanced governance and regulation of AI globally.

💡 Suggestion to establish an AI committee to address information asymmetry.

💰 Call for the creation of a global AI fund to enhance cooperation and capability development.
