Big news in the tech world! OpenAI has announced the launch of OpenAI Academy, a program aimed at investing in developers and organizations to harness artificial intelligence (AI) for solving complex problems and catalyzing community economic growth.
The goal of this academy is to ensure that AI's transformative potential is accessible and beneficial to communities worldwide, particularly in low and middle-income countries.
Many countries are experiencing rapid growth in their tech sectors, with talented developers and innovative organizations, yet opportunities for advanced training and technical resources remain limited. By investing in local AI talent, economic growth and innovation in sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, education, and finance can be promoted.
What will OpenAI Academy offer?
Firstly, training and technical guidance, provided by OpenAI experts to support developers and organizations using AI.
Secondly, API credits, with $1 million in API credits issued to enable participants to build and deploy innovative applications.
Thirdly, community building, fostering a global network of developers to promote collaboration, knowledge sharing, and collective innovation. Lastly, competitions and incubators, partnering with philanthropists to invest in organizations tackling community-frontline challenges.
This initiative builds on OpenAI's long-standing support for AI developers and organizations, who have been at the forefront of this work. Soon, we will share more details on how to access the academy's resources. OpenAI offers API credits and technical guidance to support winning organizations and dozens of others committed to solving global challenges.
To further support global developers, OpenAI has also funded and released a professional translation of the Massive Multitask Language Understanding (MMLU) benchmark, a standard for measuring general AI intelligence, translated into 14 languages including Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Swahili, and Yoruba.
Supporting those who understand the unique cultural, economic, and social dynamics of their communities will help ensure that AI applications meet local needs. Developers and organizations are key to making AI more widely accepted and enabling people around the world—regardless of where they live or what language they speak—to leverage this technology to solve problems.
