Meta unveiled Llama3.2 at its annual Meta Connect 2024 conference, aiming to enhance capabilities for edge AI and visual tasks.

The newly introduced Llama3.2 models include medium-sized visual models with 1.1 billion and 9 billion parameters, as well as smaller models with 100 million and 300 million parameters, specifically optimized for mobile devices and supporting Qualcomm and MediaTek hardware.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that these models will enable developers to innovate without requiring substantial resources, driving applications on mobile devices. "The Llama3.2 models bring state-of-the-art capabilities to developers without the need for extensive resources, allowing for innovation and breakthroughs directly on edge and mobile devices."

It is worth noting that official data claims that this model outperforms all closed-source models in terms of vision, including Claude3-Haiku and GPT-40-mini.

Orion AR glasses, Ray-Ban smart glasses, and more were unveiled.

At the event, Zuckerberg also showcased the first functional prototype of the Orion AR glasses, which he called "the most advanced AR glasses ever in the world." These glasses represent Meta's multi-billion dollar investment in wearable devices, and in the future, they may be integrated with other wearable devices such as bracelets to provide users with a more comprehensive AR experience.

Additionally, Meta introduced a limited edition of Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses priced at $429, which is $100 more expensive than the existing transparent models. The new glasses come with Transitions lenses and a custom black protective case.

Meta also made significant updates to its metaverse avatars, allowing users to customize their avatars more extensively in Meta Horizon OS, Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger, including adjusting eye size, nose shape, and body proportions. This update will go live on October 1st, aiming to enhance engagement and immersion in the metaverse.

In terms of hardware, Meta launched the Quest3S VR headset for $299.99, nearly half the price of its predecessor, the Quest3. Despite the lower price, the Quest3S still features mixed reality capabilities and a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2Gen2 chip, with improved battery life. Additionally, Meta announced it will stop selling the Quest Pro VR headset due to its poor market performance.
