In recent years, modern connected cars, particularly electric vehicles, have generated vast amounts of data. However, automakers typically do not provide owners with effective ways to manage this data. Ben Schippers, founder of TezLab, has been trying to change this status quo through TezLab.
TezLab is an application originally designed for Tesla vehicles and has recently expanded to include Rivian vehicles. It helps electric vehicle owners understand their driving habits and vehicle performance.
TezLab has recently introduced a new application section called "Vehicle Reports." This feature displays a series of data points to owners, such as the frequency of using DC fast chargers versus household sockets, the number of times they charge to 100%, and how far they can drive based on their personal driving style, among others. Additionally, there are detailed visualizations, such as maps of all locations an owner can reach based on charging levels and driver behavior.
The Vehicle Reports on TezLab also take this idea a step further by comparing these data points with other Tesla users. For example, owners who pride themselves on maintaining their battery health can now use TezLab to see how many more miles they can drive compared to other owners of similar models after a full charge.
Ben Schippers, founder of TezLab, stated that his five-person team has been closely collaborating with Tesla for most of the past year to understand what types of data the API allows them to access and how to interpret this data correctly. Schippers also plans to expand TezLab to other popular electric vehicles, starting with Hyundai and Kia models next.
