In the context of growing global concern for environmental protection, Uber has announced the launch of an AI assistant powered by OpenAI's GPT-4o technology, specifically designed to help drivers transition more smoothly to electric vehicles (EVs).
This announcement was officially made at the recent "Go-Get Zero" event held in London. Uber is committed to reducing carbon emissions and has pledged an investment of $800 million to support its driver partners in transitioning to EVs by 2040.
The AI assistant will first launch in the United States early next year and will then expand to other regions. It will provide drivers with personalized information, particularly related to their city and available EV subsidies. Uber states that by 2025, the AI assistant will also expand its capabilities to answer various questions beyond EVs.
Currently, about 180,000 Uber drivers in North America and Europe choose to use EVs monthly. Uber's CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi, noted that Uber drivers are switching to EVs five times faster than the average driver. For example, in London, nearly 30% of Uber trips are already completed by EVs, demonstrating the rapid and widespread transformation.
In addition to launching the AI assistant, Uber also plans to initiate a mentor program aimed at pairing experienced EV drivers with those looking to transition. This one-on-one guidance not only helps new drivers adapt to EV driving more quickly but also enhances mutual communication and experience sharing.
While encouraging the use of EVs, Uber has also introduced an incentive program, offering $50,000 in funding to top-performing merchants on its food delivery platform to help them promote sustainable development initiatives and attract more customers. Furthermore, Uber will host a series of pop-up events, giving customers the opportunity to experience EVs firsthand. For instance, London users can test drive the Lotus Eletre, while those in Los Angeles, Miami, and Dallas can book rides in the Rivian R1.
