According to an analysis by AI research firm Epoch AI, Google likely possesses the largest artificial intelligence computing capacity globally. This leading position is primarily attributed to its self-developed Tensor Processing Units (TPUs), which have a computational capacity equivalent to at least 600,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs.
Researchers at Epoch AI point out that considering Google's extensive TPU arrays and the Nvidia GPUs they utilize, Google is likely the company with the strongest AI computing capacity among all single entities currently.
Despite Google's leading position in total computing capacity, Nvidia remains the dominant player in the AI chip market. Since early 2022, Nvidia has sold AI chips with a computational capacity equivalent to approximately 3 million H100 GPUs. These chips have primarily been purchased by the four major cloud service providers, with Microsoft being the largest customer. Additionally, other buyers include cloud computing companies like Oracle and CoreWeave, AI companies like xAI and Tesla, as well as some Chinese tech companies and governments, which are building national-level AI infrastructure.
Epoch AI also cautions that their estimates involve significant uncertainty, as the AI chip market is rapidly evolving, with companies developing new processors and enhancing production capabilities. Currently, Nvidia's next-generation Blackwell GPU is reportedly in high demand and already sold out. According to Barron's, in a conversation between Morgan Stanley analysts and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, it was mentioned that the supply for the next 12 months of Blackwell has been fully booked.
In addition to Nvidia and Google, companies like AMD, Intel, Huawei, Amazon, Meta, OpenAI, and Microsoft are also actively developing their own AI chips. Meanwhile, China is encouraging domestic companies to purchase more chips from Chinese suppliers like Huawei to promote the development of the local industry.
