OpenAI has recently made significant updates to ChatGPT, not only revamping the user interface but also introducing a revolutionary search functionality. This update marks a shift for ChatGPT from a simple conversational assistant to a comprehensive information platform.

The interface update is mainly reflected in two aspects: firstly, the new Canvas feature automatically opens a new interface on the right side, facilitating the handling of long documents; secondly, the prompt box has been moved to the center of the screen, making the overall layout more akin to search engines like Google and Perplexity AI.

More notably, the introduction of the SearchGPT feature allows users to activate this function simply by pressing the "/" key, enabling ChatGPT to access real-time web data. OpenAI has partnered with renowned publishers such as The Wall Street Journal and The Associated Press to ensure the reliability of the information. Each response from SearchGPT comes with clear inline citations and links, allowing users to easily trace the sources of the information.

Using SearchGPT is very intuitive: press the "/" key in the ChatGPT interface, select the search option, and then ask questions just like using a regular search engine. Within a few seconds, SearchGPT will provide answers with sources. Users can also delve deeper into topics by asking follow-up questions, creating a more interactive experience than traditional searches.

Currently, the SearchGPT feature is only available to 10,000 users, with others able to join the waiting list. As this feature is fully rolled out, ChatGPT is expected to bridge the gap between AI assistants and search engines, offering users more comprehensive and intelligent information services.
