Recently, the U.S. Army announced a new pilot program aimed at exploring the application of generative artificial intelligence in supporting military procurement activities.

According to the U.S. Army, this program will utilize a generative AI tool named LIGER to enhance the efficiency of information retrieval and analysis for the military. Jennifer Swanson, the Army's Deputy Assistant Secretary, stated: "By leveraging LIGER, we aim to streamline our procurement processes while improving the accuracy of information."

One of the highlights of LIGER is its ability to query a carefully selected set of documents, generate new content, and provide citations. This means that the generated output is not only accurate but also convenient for fact-checking. Swanson further noted that LIGER will help ensure the verifiability and integrity of the generated content.

In September of this year, LMI launched the LIGER platform with the aim of helping federal agencies streamline government operations and provide actionable insights and recommendations to address complex challenges. The Army's pilot program primarily aims to enhance the efficiency of acquiring key information related to procurement, promote collaboration, share best practices and insights on AI integration, and improve the accuracy of generated content to ensure reliability.

To protect "need-to-know" information, the pilot program will also implement customizable user access controls. Additionally, the project will focus on identifying erroneous outputs or what is known as "hallucinations" to enhance the reliability of AI-generated content.

This program is not only an exploration of technology but also a proactive attempt at future military procurement models. The Army hopes that through this approach, it can not only increase operational efficiency but also ensure the accuracy and security of information.
