At this year's WWDC conference, Apple showcased some new AI features, which, although attracting the attention of many users, are said by industry analysts to actually lag about two years behind competitors in the development of AI technology. Compared to companies like Google and Microsoft, Apple is noticeably slower in applying AI technology.

According to well-known analyst Mark Gurman in his latest "Power On" newsletter, Apple employees generally believe that the company's AI development has a certain gap compared to industry standards. They think that Apple will strive to catch up with competitors' pace within the next two years, planning to roll out the "Apple Intelligence" feature on all future devices.

Currently, Apple has announced a series of AI plans, expected to gradually test related features in the upcoming iOS18.1 update next week. However, this update will not include all the content showcased at WWDC, but will roll out new features in batches, with full coverage expected only by next year. Notably, Apple has recently started integrating ChatGPT into Siri, which is expected to be released to the public later this year.

Gurman further pointed out that although Apple started late, the company is confident about catching up in the near future. He even mentioned that Apple might consider outsourcing development or integrating third-party language models to accelerate the promotion of AI technology. In the next two years, all screen-equipped Apple devices are expected to feature "Apple Intelligence." The recently released iPad mini 7 already meets the relevant hardware requirements, equipped with 8GB of RAM and the A17Pro chip, and the entry-level iPad is expected to receive the same AI features next year.

Additionally, Apple plans to launch a new iPhone 17 "Air" model next year, equipped with 8GB of RAM, which will support "Apple Intelligence." The iPhone SE4, expected to be released in the spring of 2025, will become the most affordable iPhone supporting "Apple Intelligence." It is clear that Apple is going all out in integrating AI technology, and in the near future, we might see it on more devices.
