At the Snapdragon Summit 2024 held today, Qualcomm Technologies officially unveiled the highly anticipated Snapdragon 8 Ultimate Edition mobile platform. This chip, built on TSMC's second-generation 3nm process technology, marks a new pinnacle in Android smartphone chip performance.

The Snapdragon 8 Ultimate Edition features a novel core design, eliminating small cores in favor of an all-large-core setup, including 2 super large cores clocked at 4.32GHz and 6 large cores at 3.53GHz. This design sets a new record for mobile processor clock speeds. Qualcomm claims that compared to its predecessor, this chip sees a 45% improvement in both single-core and multi-core CPU performance, while power consumption is reduced by 44%.

In terms of cache configuration, the Snapdragon 8 Ultimate Edition boasts a total of 24MB of CPU cache, with 12MB of L2 cache shared among the super large cores and another 12MB shared among the performance cores, supporting LPDDR5x memory at 5.3GHz. Qualcomm has also reserved 12MB of dedicated memory for the GPU to reduce reliance on system memory, thereby lowering power consumption and latency.

For the GPU, the Snapdragon 8 Ultimate Edition features the new Adreno GPU, which offers a 40% performance boost and a 40% reduction in power consumption over its predecessor, with a 35% improvement in ray tracing performance. The chip supports Snapdragon Elite Gaming features, including the Adreno Image Motion Engine 2.0, enabling frame interpolation technology.

With the launch of the Snapdragon 8 Ultimate Edition, flagship phones such as the Xiaomi 15 series, Honor Magic7 series, OnePlus 13, realme GT7 Pro, and iQOO 13 will soon be unveiled, all equipped with this top-tier Android chip, offering consumers an unparalleled performance experience.
