Honeywell and Google Cloud recently announced a collaboration aimed at revolutionizing the industry by integrating advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) agents into industrial operations. According to a press release issued on October 21, the partnership is expected to commence in 2025, primarily leveraging Honeywell's IoT platform — Honeywell Forge — and Google Cloud's AI technologies, particularly the Gemini platform and Vertex AI.

This new initiative not only promises to enhance efficiency by connecting assets, personnel, and processes but also aims to address the labor shortage issues faced by many industries, making operations more automated. With the baby boomer generation gradually retiring, the shortage of manpower in the industrial sector has become increasingly evident. According to Honeywell's 2024 Industrial AI Insights Report, while 82% of industrial leaders consider their organizations early adopters of AI, only 17% have fully implemented their initial strategies.
Honeywell and Google's collaboration seeks to fill this gap by deploying AI agents to help enhance employee skills. Vimal Kapur, Chairman and CEO of Honeywell, stated in the press release: "The path to autonomy requires assets to operate more efficiently, people to work smarter, and processes to be more effective."
Additionally, Honeywell and Google Cloud plan to jointly develop specialized industrial AI agents aimed at automating the project design cycle and simplifying maintenance tasks. These AI agents will utilize Google's large language models to help technicians solve problems more efficiently by processing various data types — including images, videos, text, and sensor readings — to facilitate better decision-making.
According to the press release, the partnership will also integrate Google's threat intelligence into Honeywell's cybersecurity products to enhance threat detection capabilities and the security of critical infrastructure for industrial customers. Looking ahead, Honeywell is also exploring the use of Google's Gemini Nano model to enhance the intelligence applications of Honeywell edge AI devices across multiple verticals, including performance scanning, voice-based workflow guidance, maintenance support, and more, without the need for internet and cloud services. This marks the arrival of a new wave of smarter devices and solutions.
