ComfyUI has recently released the V1 update, bringing a series of significant improvements, including a new desktop application, a redesigned user interface, and an upgraded custom node security mechanism.

The desktop application released by ComfyUI this time aims to provide users with a smoother and more convenient experience. The desktop application now supports cross-platform functionality, running on Windows, macOS, and Linux systems. The automatic update feature ensures that users always have the latest stable version.

Additionally, the desktop application includes a recommended Python environment, simplifying the installation process, and defaults to the ComfyUI manager, allowing users to directly install the latest version of nodes from the ComfyUI registry.

The newly designed user interface is also a highlight of this update. The top menu bar integrates many features, making it easy for extension developers to add custom menu items. The model library allows users to easily browse all models and drag them directly into the workflow as checkpoint loaders. The workflow browser supports saving and quick access to workflows, and can export them to different directories.

Furthermore, ComfyUI now supports automatic model downloads. Users can embed model URLs or IDs in their workflows, and ComfyUI will automatically download any missing models.

ComfyUI has also introduced the Custom Node Registry (CNR), similar to NPM, with nodes released under semantic versioning. The CNR aims to provide users with a safer and more stable custom node experience.

Currently, the CNR includes over 600 published nodes and more than 2,000 node versions. In the future, ComfyUI plans to conduct security scans on custom nodes in the CNR to identify and ban malicious nodes, and notify users who have installed them.

Additionally, the ComfyUI team is developing tools to improve dependency resolution, helping users reliably install custom nodes and run existing workflows.

The ComfyUI V1 desktop application is currently in beta testing, and users can sign up for the waitlist to gain access. The public beta is expected to be released in the coming weeks, at which time the source code will also be open-sourced.

It is worth noting that the new V1 user interface will become the default user experience for ComfyUI in the future. The original user interface is now in maintenance mode and will not receive new features. The ComfyUI team encourages all custom node and extension developers to support the new user interface.
