Recently, China's medical community has achieved a significant breakthrough with the unveiling of the first clinical ophthalmology large model, "Fuxi Wisdom Eye" (VisionFM), in Zhengzhou, Henan Province. Professor Wang Ningli, President of the Henan Academy of Medical Sciences, introduced that this model not only has the capability to screen and diagnose ophthalmic diseases but also predicts the progression of these diseases. By analyzing eye photos, "Fuxi Wisdom Eye" can predict 38 blood biochemical indicators, realizing the vision of "one photo of the eye fundus, all eye diseases known."
This large model is the result of collaborative research by Professor Wang Ningli's team and more than 30 research institutions, over a hundred researchers, and medical-engineering integration engineers, showcasing the powerful force of interdisciplinary cooperation. It aggregates data from 560,000 individuals across 26 countries and regions, covering 3.4 million eye images in eight modalities, making it the world's largest ophthalmic image database.
"Fuxi Wisdom Eye" will gradually expand to areas including cardiovascular, respiratory, metabolic, and oncology chronic disease prevention and control, constructing a comprehensive health management system. The initial applications will be implemented in medical institutions such as Henan Provincial People's Hospital and the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University. The application of this model will establish an intelligent medical diagnosis platform, enhance diagnostic efficiency, reduce misdiagnosis rates, and provide the public with disease inquiries and popular science services.
The launch of "Fuxi Wisdom Eye" not only demonstrates the potential of artificial intelligence in the field of ophthalmic medicine but also injects new vitality into the development of intelligent medicine in China.
