Baidu Inc. unveiled its top ten cutting-edge technological inventions for 2024 in Beijing on October 22, focusing on innovative artificial intelligence-native applications and high-value patent achievements. Among these advanced technological inventions, "large models" emerged as a prominent keyword, highlighting Baidu's in-depth research and application in this field.
The ten cutting-edge technological inventions specifically include: intelligent agent technology based on generative large models, multi-model collaborative evolutionary technology based on a large model efficient training framework, a multi-modal content creation and editing integrated intelligent system based on large models and knowledge retrieval enhancement technology, scalable autonomous driving positioning and lane-level map generation technology, personalized memory mechanisms for large model intelligence, hyper-realistic digital human modeling, driving, and generation systems based on large models, generative commercial search systems based on large models, large model data flywheel technology, large model efficient inference technology, and a search generation system driven by user data feedback.
Among the ten inventions announced this time, eight are related to large models. Notably, "large model data flywheel technology" effectively breaks through the data bottleneck, reducing the cost of data acquisition. Meanwhile, "multi-model collaborative evolutionary technology based on a large model efficient training framework" significantly enhances the training performance of large models, increasing the throughput speed of the ERNIE large model by 4.1 times over the past year. Additionally, "large model efficient inference technology" has pioneered efficient and lossless compression for large models at the billion- and trillion-level scale, which is currently applied in core businesses such as the Baidu Smart Cloud Qianfan large model platform, saving over 50% of the deployment costs for large models.
According to the "Analysis Report on Patent Technology of the New Generation of Artificial Intelligence" released by the National Industrial Information Security Development Research Center and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's Electronic Intellectual Property Center, as of the end of 2023, Baidu's patent applications in the entire field of artificial intelligence reached 19,308, with 9,260 granted, ranking first in the country for six consecutive years. These achievements not only showcase Baidu's technological prowess in artificial intelligence but also provide new directions and impetus for the future development of AI technology.
