Apple Inc. has announced that it will release updates for iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2 to the public in December. In this update, Apple's voice assistant, Siri, will integrate with ChatGPT, offering users a richer interactive experience. Users can access ChatGPT for free directly through Siri without needing to create an account. Siri will seek the user's consent before utilizing ChatGPT's expertise to answer questions.
In iOS 18.2, Siri will be able to ask users if they wish to share their queries with ChatGPT and provide suggestions generated by OpenAI's chatbot. ChatGPT has also been integrated into the system's writing tools, for example, users can create a bedtime story and include images generated by ChatGPT. The text and image generation capabilities of ChatGPT surpass Apple's existing tools, offering users more advanced content creation options.
Apple emphasizes that it places a high priority on user privacy protection when invoking ChatGPT, concealing users' IP addresses and promising not to save records of user requests to ChatGPT.
The iPhone 16 series upgraded to iOS 18.2 will also receive Apple Visual Intelligence, a visual intelligence feature. This function analyzes images using artificial intelligence and performs tasks based on the image content, such as recognizing text and location data in images. Specific applications include the system adding events to the calendar when the user points the camera at a wall poster, or identifying the breed of a dog when the user points the camera at it.
Additionally, Apple Intelligence in iOS 18.2 will support American English as well as localized English for Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, Ireland, and the United Kingdom.
