During the U.S. presidential election, X's chatbot Grok was found disseminating misinformation. According to tests conducted by TechCrunch, Grok often provided incorrect responses when asked about election results, even declaring that Trump had won key battleground states, despite the counting and reporting in those states not yet being completed.

During interviews, Grok repeatedly claimed that Trump had won the 2024 Ohio election, despite the contrary being true. The source of the misinformation seemed to be tweets from different election years and misleading statements from various sources.

Compared to other major chatbots, Grok was more reckless in handling questions about election results. OpenAI's ChatGPT and Meta's Meta AI chatbots were more cautious, directing users to authoritative sources or providing accurate information.

Additionally, Grok was accused of spreading erroneous election information in August, incorrectly suggesting that Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris was ineligible to appear on some U.S. presidential ballots. This misinformation spread widely, affecting millions of users on X and other platforms before it was corrected.

X's AI chatbot Grok has faced criticism for potentially influencing election outcomes through the dissemination of incorrect election information.
