Edia, an American educational technology company, has recently launched a groundbreaking AI tool designed to address the growing issue of student absenteeism in US schools through intelligent parent communication and personalized intervention strategies. Data shows that over the past two years, the long-term absentee rate among American students has risen from 15% in 2018 to 26% in 2023, a trend that has garnered significant attention.

One of the most notable features of this innovative tool is its rapid response capability. It can connect in real-time with the school's existing Student Information System (SIS) and, within 15 minutes of a student's unexpected absence, automatically send a detailed follow-up message to the parents. The system supports over 100 languages for automatic translation, ensuring that communication is not hindered by language barriers.

Joe Philleo, CEO of Edia, pointed out that the rising absentee rates make it difficult for school administrators to handle such a large volume of follow-up work alone. "When so many students are absent, it's hard for staff to have the energy to contact each family and understand the specific situation," he said.

The system's intelligence is impressive. When parents respond with the reason for the absence and provide relevant proof (such as a doctor's note), the system automatically updates the absence status to "excused." If parents do not respond or mention issues like bullying or transportation during communication, the system automatically flags these cases and alerts staff to follow up.

More importantly, the platform also establishes a comprehensive student attendance record system, centralizing all related messages, calls, and records to help administrators identify attendance issues promptly and take intervention measures.

Kristie Medina, the director of Raton Public Schools in New Mexico, has decided to introduce this system this month. She stated, "The application of AI technology in attendance tracking and improvement will be a significant breakthrough, especially in addressing long-term absenteeism. Through AI analysis, the district can gain deeper insights into attendance patterns, identify high-risk students earlier, and develop more effective intervention strategies."
