Apple has recently released the beta version of iOS 18.2 to its public beta testers. This latest mobile operating system introduces several eagerly anticipated features, including the AI emoji generator app Genmoji, the Image Playground AI image app, ChatGPT integration with Siri, and visual search using the iPhone 16 camera.

These features were previously exclusive to developers but are now available for consumers to experience. It's worth noting that some features require joining a waitlist to access.

The AI features and tools on the new iPhone 16 and other supported devices are collectively known as Apple Intelligence, or simply "AI." The technology, driven by large language models, promises to offer users a smarter Siri, writing and proofreading assistance across applications, and image generation capabilities. Third-party developers will also be able to leverage Apple Intelligence features in their own apps.

Users can ask Siri to display information within applications or take action on content shown on the screen. Apple states that its AI technology will initially be applied to specific categories of apps, including books, browsers, cameras, document readers, file managers, journals, mail, photos, presentations, spreadsheets, whiteboards, and word processors.

Image Playground introduces a standalone image generation app where you can create new images through prompts. Genmoji offers a similar system for creating custom emojis. Image Wand can convert sketches in your notes into AI-generated images.

With Siri, users can enable the new ChatGPT extension, providing Apple's virtual assistant with more functionalities. For example, you can have ChatGPT help you write text, answer questions, create images, and more. If logged in, it can also save your request history. Paid subscribers can also access advanced ChatGPT features provided by their membership.

iPhone 16 users can press the new "Camera Control" button to activate "Visual Intelligence," a way to search and identify real-world objects and places through the camera lens.

However, for those eager to try Apple Intelligence, some features will still require some wait. Apple Intelligence must be enabled first (as it is not enabled by default), and users must then register for additional image creation features to gain access. Apple has not specified how long users will need to wait for access, but it could be several days or even weeks during this testing period.

Apple introduced AI features such as writing tools and notification summaries powered by Apple Intelligence in iOS 18.1, along with the new look for Siri, which features glowing edges on the screen.

In addition to the iOS 18.2 beta, Apple has also released the first public beta versions of iPadOS 18.2, macOS Sequoia 15.2, and tvOS 18.2.
