YouTube recently announced that it is testing a new feature that allows creators to "reimagine" licensed music in short videos (Shorts) using artificial intelligence technology. This innovative feature, named "Dream Track," aims to give creators more freedom to express their artistic creativity.

In this test, participating creators can select a qualified song and input corresponding prompts to alter the mood or genre of the music. The system will generate a unique 30-second soundtrack based on these instructions for their short video creations. Creators will be able to reinterpret familiar songs into music that better aligns with their content style, offering a fresh audio-visual experience.

Each rearranged soundtrack will clearly be attributed to the original song, and the track will be marked as AI-remade in both the short video and audio information pages. YouTube states that creators participating in this project can use AI-generated voices of some famous artists, including Charlie Puth, Charli XCX, Demi Lovato, and John Legend, among others. This move gives creators more possibilities in music selection.

Although YouTube's project is still in the testing phase, it is currently unclear which specific songs can be remade and with which music labels YouTube has partnered. However, according to a report in the Financial Times in June, YouTube had approached major music labels to use their songs to train AI models.

The introduction of this new feature may provide more inspiration for creators on the YouTube platform, allowing them to create more personalized and innovative short video works. As AI technology continues to develop, the boundaries of music creation are gradually expanding, and the future of short video music will present a more diverse range of styles.
