The launch of the web version marks a continuation of the advanced voice mode feature that was first introduced in the iOS and Android applications. The new feature will initially be available to ChatGPT's paid users, including Plus, Enterprise, Teams, and Edu subscribers. Users must have the corresponding subscription to experience this new functionality.

The advanced voice mode utilizes OpenAI's native audio capabilities of GPT-4o, enabling more natural real-time conversations. This feature allows ChatGPT not only to understand the user's language but also to perceive non-verbal signals, such as speaking speed. Additionally, the chatbot can respond to users with different emotions, enhancing the realism of interactions.

To initiate voice conversations on the web, users simply need to click the voice icon in the bottom right corner of the ChatGPT prompt window and grant the browser permission to access the computer's microphone. Once the voice conversation starts, users will see a central blue circle interface. Notably, users can choose from nine different output voices, each with its own unique tone and personality. For example, the "Arbor" voice sounds relaxed and versatile, while "Ember" comes across as confident and optimistic.

Chief Product Officer Kevin Weil stated that OpenAI plans to roll out this feature to free users in the coming weeks. It is important to note that Plus and Teams subscribers will face daily usage limits when using the advanced voice mode. According to the related help page, the daily usage time limits may vary, and OpenAI will notify users when they have only 15 minutes of remaining time. Free users will also have the opportunity to try out this feature in monthly previews.
