Meta recently announced the establishment of a new business AI department, led by technology veteran Clara Shih. This new department aims to promote Meta's artificial intelligence technology to various businesses, helping them enhance operational efficiency and business capabilities.

Meta has already built extensive connections with businesses through its social platforms, with 200 million companies communicating via Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp each month.

Meta's open-source Llama language model has been downloaded over 600 million times, and its Meta AI assistant has more than 500 million monthly active users. The establishment of the business AI department marks Meta's first large-scale effort to direct its AI technology and expertise toward dedicated business services. While Meta's move will compete with companies like Microsoft, OpenAI, and Anthropic, it remains unclear whether Meta will directly confront these companies or focus more on integrating AI services with existing Meta products, such as advertising tools.

In Meta's statement, Clara Shih mentioned that this new department will also focus on developing AI capabilities for Meta's augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) hardware. She believes that combining AI with AR and VR technologies can provide greater opportunities for businesses, leveraging Meta's global influence and AI technology. Recently, Meta has also implemented AI features in its consumer-oriented smart glasses, and this technology could play a significant role in areas such as logistics in the future.

Clara Shih has extensive experience in social media and business technology. She founded Hearsay Systems, a company focused on social media tools for sales teams, which was later acquired by Yext. In 2009, she also published a book titled "The Facebook Era." Before joining Meta, Shih served as the CEO of Salesforce AI, overseeing several projects, including the development platform Agentforce for business process automation.

Meta's business AI department will drive the company's growth in the enterprise services sector, with the potential for greater technological and market breakthroughs in the future.
