YouTube made a significant update to its Shorts feature this Thursday. By integrating Google DeepMind's Veo video generation model, the Dream Screen feature now supports AI-generated video backgrounds, producing 1080p high-definition videos, which greatly enhances creators' short video production.
This technology is extremely simple and intuitive to use. Creators just need to open the Shorts camera, click the "Green Screen" icon, select the "Dream Screen" feature, and input a scene description, such as "candy world" or "a magical forest with a flowing stream." After choosing an animation style, the system will generate multiple video backgrounds to choose from, allowing creators to record their video content in front of these dynamic backgrounds.
This feature opens up endless possibilities for creators: whether placing themselves in the scene of their favorite novel or creating a unique animated opening for their short videos, it can all be easily achieved. YouTube also revealed that it will soon introduce a feature for generating 6-second standalone video clips, further enriching creative options.
It is noteworthy that this innovative feature gives YouTube a technological advantage in the short video space. Currently, the leading platform in the short video market, TikTok, only supports AI-generated static background images and has not yet launched a video background generation feature.
At present, this new feature has been launched first in the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. This important update not only showcases YouTube's technological strength in AI applications but also brings richer creative possibilities to creators worldwide.
