As Black Friday approaches, more and more consumers are looking for the best shopping deals. According to the latest survey, about 44% of Black Friday shoppers plan to use ChatGPT and other AI tools to find discounts without leaving their homes.
This annual shopping event has undergone significant changes in recent years, evolving from midnight lines to online shopping during the pandemic. Advances in technology have fundamentally transformed the way we shop.
This survey, conducted earlier this month by research company Attest with 2,000 consumers, revealed that nearly half of the respondents (48%) will use generative AI tools like ChatGPT to gather product information and shopping inspiration. As tech companies like OpenAI and Perplexity AI roll out more features, consumers can more easily find the items they want during holiday sales. ChatGPT can even help shoppers plan their shopping trips, including store visits, best deals, and restaurant stops.
However, in the face of inflation and global uncertainty, many large retailers are also sensing a cautious attitude among consumers. Economic pressures are prompting shoppers to adopt smarter and more efficient shopping strategies, with an increasing number relying on AI to help them make decisions. According to the Attest survey, nearly 40% of consumers reported that they "completely trust" AI tools.
Not only consumers, but also major retailers like Amazon and Walmart are actively enhancing their AI capabilities to improve product recommendations and pricing strategies. Walmart's Chief Financial Officer John David Rainey stated that this shift signals future trends.
AI tools are playing an increasingly important role in Black Friday shopping. Although they are not perfect and occasionally recommend outdated information, consumers are still attracted to their efficiency and convenience, representing a new generation of shopping methods.
