Amazon recently announced a series of new AI foundational models under the new "Nova" brand at its AWS re:Invent conference. These models will be part of the Amazon Bedrock model library, marking a further advancement for Amazon in the field of artificial intelligence.

In a blog post, Amazon stated that there are currently three types of "understanding" models available:

Nova Micro, a text model optimized for speed and cost.

Nova Lite, a "very low-cost" multimodal model that can process images, videos, and text simultaneously and generate corresponding text content.

Nova Pro, a "high-capability" multimodal model suitable for more complex tasks.

Additionally, Amazon is developing a model called Amazon Nova Premier, which is expected to become its "most powerful multimodal model," focusing on complex reasoning tasks and is planned for release in early 2025.

In addition to the understanding models, Amazon also released content generation models, including Amazon Nova Canvas (image generation model) and Amazon Nova Reel (video generation model). These models feature a "watermarking capability" aimed at promoting responsible AI usage. Amazon showcased a simulated advertisement using Nova Reel, demonstrating its powerful content generation capabilities.

Looking ahead, Amazon plans to launch a voice-to-voice model and a "native multimodal to multimodal" model later in 2025. These new products will further enrich Amazon's AI product line.

At the conference, Amazon also revealed its collaboration with Anthropic to build a large AI computing cluster, which will utilize Amazon's Trainium2 chips. Once completed, this cluster is expected to become the world's largest AI computing cluster, available for Anthropic to build and deploy future AI models.

Like other tech giants, Amazon is eager to roll out new AI products and features to maintain its competitive edge. Amazon's extensive infrastructure in internet services may make large enterprises more willing to adopt its AI products, as Amazon has already established a trusted reputation.

Moreover, Amazon is actively developing an upgraded version of its AI voice assistant, Alexa. Although initially planned for release this fall, recent news indicates that the launch of Alexa will be postponed until next year.
