Recently, the artificial intelligence company OpenAI announced a collaboration with defense technology company Anduril Technologies, marking its first project in the defense sector. This news has garnered widespread attention in the industry.

According to the cooperation agreement, OpenAI will integrate its AI software into Anduril's anti-drone systems, aiming to enhance the detection and strike capabilities of drones.

Anduril currently has a market value of $14 billion and has signed a $200 million contract for anti-drone systems with the U.S. Marine Corps. This move signifies a significant shift in OpenAI's attitude towards military usage in recent times. Previously, OpenAI's terms of service explicitly prohibited the use of its technology for military and warfare purposes, but in January of this year, the company revised its terms to ease restrictions on military applications.

OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman stated in a statement: "OpenAI's goal is to benefit as many people as possible, and we support U.S.-led efforts to ensure technology upholds democratic values. Our collaboration with Anduril will help us ensure that OpenAI's technology protects U.S. servicemen and assists the national security community in understanding and responsibly using these technologies to safeguard citizens' safety and freedom."

Anduril's co-founder Palmer Luckey also holds some political influence; he was an early supporter of President Trump before his election and has connections with Tesla founder Elon Musk. Additionally, the pro-Trump think tank "America First Policy Institute" has suggested that Trump should promote AI technology as a new "Manhattan Project" for advancing defense development.

This collaboration will not only bring economic benefits to OpenAI but may also enhance its political influence. As AI technology continues to expand its applications in the military sector, the partnership between OpenAI and Anduril will create new opportunities for future developments in defense technology.
