OpenAI announced two significant updates during the debut of its "12 Days of Live Streams" event today: the full version of the inference model o1 and its advanced mode, along with the launch of the ChatGPT Pro subscription service at a monthly fee of $200.
The full version of the o1 model will gradually be made available to ChatGPT Plus users. This model answers questions using an internal reasoning chain that is more akin to human thought processes, improving the accuracy of responses to specialized queries. Compared to the preview version of o1 released in September, the full version of the o1 model shows significant improvements in speed, performance, and accuracy, and it also introduces multimodal input capabilities, allowing users to upload images for more accurate answers.
OpenAI stated that the thinking speed of the full version of the o1 model has increased by approximately 50%, and the probability of making significant errors when answering difficult real-world questions has decreased by 34% compared to the preview version.
Another update to the o1 model is the support for image input, allowing users to attach hand-drawn diagrams when asking the model questions, such as "Cooling issues in a space data center." OpenAI plans to add support for features like web browsing and file uploads in the coming months.
Additionally, OpenAI has launched the ChatGPT Pro subscription service, which costs $200 per month. Subscribers will have unlimited access to the o1 model, o1mini, and advanced voice modes, as well as the o1pro mode. The o1pro mode will utilize more computational resources for in-depth reasoning, providing the best answers to the most challenging questions, with more computation-intensive features to be added in the future.
