Google's CEO Sundar Pichai recently stated that by 2025, the company's search engine will undergo "profound changes" that will enable it to tackle more complex problems than ever before. At the New York Times DealBook Summit, Pichai mentioned, "Even at the beginning of 2025, the capabilities of search will be astonishing, representing a qualitative leap compared to today."
While discussing the competition in artificial intelligence, Pichai also responded to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella's comments from earlier this year. Nadella had stated that Google should be the "default winner" in the AI race. In response, Pichai remarked, "I would be happy to compare Microsoft's model side by side with ours." He further pointed out that Microsoft's current AI advancements rely on its partnership with OpenAI, while Google's research and development are entirely based on its own technology.
Pichai emphasized that Google is in the early stages of an AI-driven transformation and promised that more innovations will emerge in the future. He stated, "We are committed to maintaining our leadership in the field of artificial intelligence, and I believe we have already achieved that."
This year, Google has made significant AI upgrades to its search engine, including the launch of AI search summaries and enhanced Lens capabilities that allow users to search the web through videos. Additionally, Google plans to make major updates to its Gemini model to compete with Microsoft, OpenAI, and the AI search engine Perplexity.
This series of developments indicates that Google is confidently advancing towards future innovations in the search domain, and the "profound changes" anticipated in 2025 are certainly worth the global users' expectations.
