Recently, the social network "X" (formerly known as Twitter) quietly launched a new image generator in its Grok assistant, named Aurora. Although this generator was taken down shortly after its release, it has now made a comeback and is officially set to be rolled out to all users within this week.
Aurora is developed by Elon Musk's artificial intelligence company xAI. Trained on billions of internet samples, Aurora excels in generating high-quality images.
According to xAI's blog, Aurora not only performs excellently in photo-realistic rendering but can also accurately follow user text instructions and even draw inspiration from images provided by users or make direct edits to them.
Aurora is currently available in some countries within X's Grok assistant and is planned to be launched to all users within a week, with future support for editing existing images.
xAI stated that Grok can now generate high-quality images across multiple domains that other image generation models often struggle with. Aurora can accurately render visual details of real-world entities, including text and logos, and is capable of generating realistic human portraits.
Last weekend, some users tested Aurora and found that it has almost no restrictions, allowing users to request the generation of public and copyrighted character images. However, Aurora's performance is not flawless. On social media, users have posted images generated by Aurora that show unnatural blending between objects or characters lacking fingers (a common challenge for image generators).
The launch of Aurora marks X's further exploration in the field of AI image generation. Although there are some flaws at present, its potential and capabilities are promising.
