The Ministry of Education recently announced that the expert committee of the Inter-ministerial Joint Conference on Foreign Language Chinese Translation Standards has approved the 16th batch of recommended Chinese translations for a total of 18 groups of foreign language terms. These translations primarily involve the fields of artificial intelligence and information technology. This initiative aims to standardize the new terms frequently encountered in the AI field and provide the public with clear official explanations to eliminate confusion.
In this new batch of recommended translations, AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) is translated as "Advanced Encryption Standard," AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) is translated as "General Artificial Intelligence," AIGC (Artificial Intelligence Generated Content) is translated as "Artificial Intelligence Generated Content," and LLM (Large Language Model) is translated as "Large Language Model." The selection of these translations is based on expert recommendations and references documents such as the "Research Report on the Development of Large Language Model Technology in Artificial Intelligence (2024)" and the "Action Plan for the High-Quality Development of Computing Power Infrastructure," while also considering newly emerged acronyms from 2021 to 2023 and entries published by the National Scientific and Technological Terminology Committee.
The recommended Chinese translations for foreign language terms have undergone expert review and corpus verification. Experts believe that the selection process for this 16th batch of translations is meticulous and scientifically sound. Based on an analysis of online corpora and corpus verification, opinions from experts and relevant industry departments were thoroughly consulted to ensure the scientific accuracy and universality of the translations, facilitating their promotion and application.
