YouTube has announced the expansion of its AI-driven automatic dubbing feature to "hundreds of thousands of channels" that are part of the YouTube Partner Program and focus on educational and informational content. This new feature not only enhances the reach of creators' videos but also attracts a broader audience that speaks different languages. YouTube stated that it will gradually introduce this feature to other types of content in the future.
According to YouTube, the automatic dubbing content depends on the language of the original video. If the original video is in English, the dubbing will be translated into French, German, Hindi, Italian, Spanish, Indonesian, Japanese, and Portuguese. If the original video's language is any of the above, the dubbing will only generate an English version. This process is automatic, and when creators upload the original video, the system will simultaneously generate the corresponding dubbing.
For channels that have already received this feature, creators can preview the automatically generated dubbing before it is published. Additionally, YouTube provides options that allow creators to cancel the publication or delete the dubbing, giving them control over the final outcome.
Although the current automatic dubbing may not sound very natural, YouTube promises that future updates will make it closer to reality in terms of "tone, emotion, and even the surrounding atmosphere." YouTube also reminds users that this technology is still being refined, and there may be instances of inaccurate translations or dubbing that does not match the original speaker.
This feature was initially launched in June 2023 in a testing phase for "hundreds" of creators, and it has now significantly expanded, showcasing YouTube's efforts to enhance user experience and content diversity.
The process for using the automatic dubbing feature on YouTube is as follows:
Step 1: Upload Video
Upload your prepared video. No special settings are required; YouTube will automatically detect the video's language and generate dubbing versions in other languages.
Step 2: Watch Dubbing Video
After uploading, you can find the generated dubbing versions in the "Language" section of YouTube Studio. Listen to these dubbings and assess whether you are satisfied. If not, you can choose to cancel the publication or delete the dubbings you do not like.
Step 3: Confirm Feature Availability
Go to YouTube Studio, which is your control center for managing your channel. If your channel supports this feature, you can find the relevant options in "Advanced Settings." You can also choose to review the dubbing effect before publication.
