At the recent Reuters NEXT conference held in New York, OpenAI's Chief Financial Officer Sarah Friar stated that elected President Donald Trump could become "the president of this generation of artificial intelligence."
She pointed out that Trump will take office at a crucial time when the infrastructure for artificial intelligence (AI) and artificial general intelligence (AGI) will be further developed. Friar believes that Trump's presidency coincides with the initial development of AGI, which will have a profound impact on future technological advancements.
Friar also mentioned Tesla founder Elon Musk, who is one of Trump's close advisors, and expressed that she is not concerned about Musk's threatening remarks. She stated, "We trust him... As a competitor, he will prioritize national interests and engage in appropriate competition." Musk co-founded OpenAI but has since established a competing company, xAI, and plays a significant role in Trump's transition team.
When discussing OpenAI's new video generation tool, Sora, Friar mentioned that demand for the tool has surged since its launch, and account registrations are currently paused. She noted that the pause is due to the need to enhance processing capabilities while aiming to launch the product more cautiously. Unlike the launch strategy for ChatGPT, Sora is currently available to only a select few users to better collect feedback and make improvements.
Friar also predicted that more AI agent products would be launched next year, which are software programs capable of automatically performing users' daily tasks, and she expects people to be amazed at the rapid development of this technology. OpenAI is exploring new collaboration dynamics with its largest investor, Microsoft, seeking to diversify while driving industry advancement.
Despite some controversies in governance structure and the departure of certain executives, Friar stated that the company is still rapidly expanding. She revealed that the user growth for ChatGPT is also accelerating, increasing from 200 million users in August to 300 million weekly active users, largely due to the introduction of new reasoning models.
