Anthropic has officially released its latest Claude3.5Haiku model, which users can now access through the Claude chatbot on web and mobile applications.

This model was previously only available to developers via Anthropic's API. Since its launch in October 2024, it has garnered significant attention for its compact and efficient design. Claude3.5Haiku performs exceptionally well in several key benchmark tests and offers competitive cost-effectiveness.

According to data from the third-party benchmarking organization Artificial Analysis, Claude3.5Haiku outperforms the average in terms of time to first token (TTFT), clocking in at approximately 0.80 seconds, with an output speed of 65.1 tokens per second, although it is slightly slower in output speed. This release coincides with new model launches from Anthropic's competitors, OpenAI and Google, with the latter introducing the o1 and o1-mini models as well as Gemini2.

Claude3.5Haiku is the fastest and most cost-effective model in the Anthropic series, making it particularly suitable for real-time tasks such as processing large datasets, analyzing financial documents, and generating long-context outputs. It features a context window of 200,000 tokens, surpassing OpenAI's GPT-4 and GPT-4o, which have a limit of 128,000 tokens, enabling it to handle substantial input with ease.

On the Claude chatbot, Haiku demonstrates excellent versatility, allowing users to analyze images and file attachments, enhancing the practicality of multimedia tasks and workflows involving large file sets. Additionally, Haiku integrates with Claude Artifacts, an interactive sidebar that allows real-time manipulation and optimization of AI-generated content. In my testing, Haiku was able to create a fully playable ping pong game in under a minute.

However, Haiku does have some limitations; it currently does not support web browsing or image generation, which puts it at a disadvantage compared to OpenAI's offerings. Furthermore, in my simple tests, Haiku failed to correctly identify the three 'R's in the word "strawberry" during the "strawberry test."

Claude3.5Haiku is available for free on the chatbot, but users are subject to a daily message limit. For example, in my testing this morning, I reached Anthropic's quota after about 10 interactions (20 messages total) on the free version, which resets daily. Users can also opt for the Claude Pro plan at $20 per month to unlock additional usage privileges and gain priority access to new features.

In terms of API usage, Claude3.5Haiku offers outstanding performance, starting at $0.80 per million input tokens and $4 per million output tokens, making it highly economical. Developers can further reduce costs by using prompt caching, which can save up to 90%.

Key Points:

🌟 The Claude3.5Haiku model is now open to all users, supporting image and file analysis features.

💰 The free version has a message limit, and users can choose the $20 Claude Pro subscription for more usage rights.

📈 The model performs excellently in various benchmark tests and is suitable for real-time tasks and large dataset processing.
