On December 12, Peking University and ByteDance officially announced the establishment of the Doubao Large Model System Software Joint Laboratory, marking a new milestone in the collaboration between academia and industry in China's AI field.

The research work of this joint laboratory will be based on the Doubao large model developed by ByteDance. Researchers from universities and enterprises will conduct in-depth studies in the laboratory on key technologies related to model training and inference. As the laboratory develops, many students from Peking University will have the opportunity to intern and work alongside industry researchers to advance AI technology.

ByteDance Douyin Doubao Large Model

The ByteDance Doubao Large Model team was established in 2023, focusing on cutting-edge fields such as deep learning, reinforcement learning, large language models (LLM), speech, vision, AI infrastructure, and AI security. The team has successfully launched a self-developed general large model with multimodal capabilities, which has been widely applied in over 50 businesses including Doubao, Kouzi, and Jimeng, and is also available to enterprise clients through the Volcano Engine.

In May of this year, at the 2024 Spring Volcano Engine Force Conference, ByteDance officially announced that the Doubao large model would begin external services, marking an important step in the commercialization of AI technology.

The collaboration between Peking University and ByteDance is further evidence of the deep integration between universities and enterprises in the AI field. Through the joint laboratory platform, both parties will leverage their strengths to promote the rapid transformation of research results into practical applications, injecting new vitality into the innovative development of China's AI industry.
