On December 16, 2024, MidJourney announced the launch of an eagerly anticipated new feature - "Moodboards," which is an image collection tool inspired by Pinterest.
This feature allows users to upload a carefully selected series of images to serve as inspiration for generating new artworks. By analyzing the uploaded images, MidJourney's latest AI model (version 6.1) can adapt to diverse and complex visual elements, creating unique style profiles and blending visual elements.
In addition to Moodboards, MidJourney has also launched personalized models, increasing support for various personalization profiles. Users can now create and switch between different personalized versions. These personalized configurations help users integrate unique styles more easily across various projects, enhancing creative efficiency. The speed of setting up custom models has also significantly improved, with MidJourney claiming that image ranking speed has increased fivefold.
In the past, users needed to rate 200 pairs of random images to begin establishing a personalized model, but now users can start creating their style profiles with just 40 ratings, while 200 ratings can achieve optimal stability. This simplified process lowers the entry barrier for new users, while heavy users can still achieve greater accuracy by contributing thousands of ratings.
Furthermore, MidJourney has introduced better organizational features. Users can name their personalized profiles, designate one or more default profiles, and track all images associated with specific profiles. These features are particularly important for users managing multiple projects or collaborating with others.
David Holz, the founder of MidJourney, shared this news on the company's Discord server, stating that these updates aim to make it easier for more creators to personalize their work, allowing users to better control their projects while maintaining flexibility. As MidJourney continues to refine its personalization infrastructure, user feedback is actively solicited through the "Creativity and Features" channel. These developments indicate MidJourney's commitment to providing creators with intuitive and powerful tools to further advance AI-assisted creation.
The launch of these new features follows last week's announcement of an experimental collaborative image-making whiteboard feature called "Patchwork."
