Shishir Mehrotra, CEO and co-founder of Coda, will take over as the new CEO of Grammarly. This acquisition will integrate Coda's flexible and powerful AI tools, aimed at helping customers access enterprise knowledge more efficiently, utilize generative AI for chat, and achieve comprehensive productivity improvements.
Grammarly co-founder Alex Shevchenko stated, “For the past 15 years, Grammarly has been building an AI superhighway that goes beyond just being a writing assistant. Acquiring Coda is an important step in realizing our vision, as we hope for seamless collaboration between humans and AI in future work environments.”
Coda's CEO Mehrotra also expressed his excitement about the collaboration, noting that Grammarly has millions of users worldwide, and the combination will bring significant productivity boosts to businesses. According to Deloitte's forecast, by 2025, 25% of enterprises using generative AI are expected to deploy AI agents, and this percentage is projected to grow to 50% by 2027. Currently, 10% of organizations are using AI agents, with over half planning to adopt this technology within the next year.
This acquisition also points to the future direction of Grammarly. Grammarly's AI assistant is already utilized in 50,000 enterprises, including companies like Atlassian, Ford, and Chevron, while Coda continues to innovate with its product Coda Docs, helping well-known companies such as Figma, DoorDash, and The New York Times enhance their productivity.
After the acquisition, Grammarly and Coda's products will continue to operate as usual, while Grammarly will focus on enhancing the intelligence and contextual awareness of its AI assistant by integrating with enterprise applications through Coda Brain. In the future, Grammarly plans to merge these two platforms to provide users with comprehensive AI writing support from start to finish.
As the new CEO, Mehrotra brings over 25 years of experience in the tech industry, having served as Chief Product Officer and Chief Technology Officer at YouTube, helping it become the world's largest video platform. He will leverage his experience at Grammarly to help the company establish market leadership in the application of AI in enterprise productivity.
