Recently, former U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that Sriram Krishnan will serve as the Senior Policy Advisor for Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Krishnan, a former partner at the renowned venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, will coordinate and develop AI-related policies within the government. Trump mentioned in a statement that Krishnan's work will closely collaborate with the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.
Krishnan stated on the social media platform X that he will work closely with former PayPal COO David Sacks, who was recently appointed as Trump's "czar" for cryptocurrency and AI. Krishnan expressed gratitude for this opportunity and stated his desire to contribute to America's ongoing leadership in the field of artificial intelligence.
Before taking on the policy advisor role, Krishnan had a rich background in the tech industry, having held leadership positions in product teams at companies such as Microsoft, Twitter, Yahoo, Facebook, and Snap. Along with his wife Aarthi Ramamurthy, Krishnan gained significant attention for hosting the podcast "The Aarthi and Sriram Show."
Additionally, Krishnan has a close relationship with billionaire Elon Musk and was involved in the rebuilding of Twitter (now known as X). Musk also plays a significant role in the White House policy group, responsible for recommending government structural reforms and federal spending cuts.
Notably, Krishnan was appointed as a partner at Andreessen Horowitz in 2021 and began overseeing the company's London office in 2023, marking the firm's first office outside the U.S. He left the company last November. In a commentary for The New York Times, Krishnan shared his views on AI trends, calling for a "fundamentally different mechanism" for value exchange between online platforms and AI chatbots like OpenAI's ChatGPT.
He believes that tech giants are responding to AI models through legal means and content alliances, but he hopes to see technological solutions that maintain the openness of the internet.
