Recently, several media outlets have reported that Apple is working to expand its smart home ecosystem by deepening its connection with consumers' homes through new products like a wall-mounted smart home hub. This strategy may also include a smart doorbell based on FaceID technology.
This smart doorbell is expected to use FaceID technology to scan faces as people approach, connecting with the home’s wireless door lock to enable automatic unlocking, providing users with a more convenient entry and exit experience. It is reported that this product may be compatible with third-party locks that support Apple HomeKit, and may also offer an integrated solution through partnerships with specific lock manufacturers.
However, this doorbell is still in the early stages of development and is not expected to be released until the end of 2025 at the earliest. Additionally, industry insiders point out that while this FaceID-equipped smart doorbell may compete with similar products like Amazon's Ring, it could also raise privacy and security concerns. If the system is maliciously exploited, it could pose potential risks for home burglaries.
Whether Apple can secure another victory in the smart home market with this innovative product remains to be seen.
