American tech company Nvidia has recently completed its acquisition of Israeli software company Run:ai, with the collaboration aimed at enhancing the management efficiency of AI cloud computing. Although the specific acquisition amount has not been disclosed, reports suggest that the deal is valued at approximately $700 million. Nvidia announced that it will open source Run:ai's software to more broadly support the AI ecosystem.

Run:ai's core software helps clients efficiently schedule Nvidia GPU resources, thereby optimizing AI computation performance. While the decision to open source the software was not explained in detail, it is widely believed in the industry that Nvidia's market capitalization has reached $3.56 trillion, making it the most valuable company in the world, which subjects it to greater antitrust scrutiny when acquiring other companies. Therefore, open sourcing may be a strategic response.

Run:ai's founders, Omri Geller and Ronen Dar, stated in a press release that open sourcing will help the community accelerate the development of AI technology. They emphasized that although Run:ai currently only supports Nvidia's GPUs, open sourcing will enable their software to serve the entire AI ecosystem, increasing flexibility and availability. They also mentioned that they will continue to support customers in maximizing their use of AI infrastructure, whether on-premises, in the cloud, or on Nvidia DGX Cloud developed in collaboration with major cloud service providers.

Founded in 2018, Run:ai's mission is to help organizations fully leverage the potential of AI infrastructure. The founders noted that the team has achieved a series of previously unimaginable milestones and will continue to strive for innovation in the AI field. They also mentioned that joining Nvidia provides them with a unique opportunity to collaboratively advance a shared mission to tackle major global challenges.

Nvidia, a long-time manufacturer of graphics chips, has seen increasing applications of its chips in running AI software in recent years. This acquisition demonstrates Nvidia's emphasis on the software sector, aiming to offer more choices and efficiency to customers. Nvidia and Run:ai have been collaborating since 2020, sharing a number of client resources.
