Have you ever fantasized about recreating those tempting dishes at home while watching a cooking show? For example, the Italian risotto from the movie "The Big Feast" or the beef bourguignon from "Julie & Julia"? If you plan to purchase the 2025 Samsung TV, your culinary dreams might soon come true.
At the 2025 CES event held in Las Vegas, Samsung officially launched a new feature—Samsung Food. This feature uses the company's AI processor to recognize food appearing on the screen and find corresponding recipes for you.
Samsung Food is not a new concept. In fact, Samsung acquired the food app Whisk in 2019 and renamed it Samsung Food in 2023. Now, the Samsung Food app for iOS and Android has been launched, offering tools such as meal planning and AI-guided cooking steps. If you're willing to pay a premium fee of $7 per month, it can even suggest recipes based on photos.
While the Samsung Food feature on Samsung TVs is somewhat limited compared to the mobile app, it not only recommends recipes based on visual recognition but also shows the delivery progress of food and groceries ordered through the Samsung Food mobile app. Samsung confidently stated at the press conference that this app can create shopping lists based on the ingredients in your fridge, calling it the "ultimate AI kitchen assistant."
Although this feature sounds quite appealing, we need to see if it can deliver on its promises. In comparison, the photo-to-recipe tool of the cooking app SideChef has shown some shortcomings, and popular AI summarization tools and chatbots like ChatGPT also fall short in this area.
Moreover, AI cannot actually cook for you. As someone who has recently lost interest in cooking, this might be a significant drawback. However, if you dream of making French pastries like those on "The Great British Bake Off" at home, then these TVs might be your ideal choice.
Samsung Food will be available on the upcoming QN90F, QN80F, and QN70F model TVs.
